Former Chief Economist and First Vice President of the World Bank and Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Paris School of Economics



François Bourguignon is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Paris School of Economics and a Global Professor at New York University in Abu Dhabi. He served as Director of the Paris School from 2007 to 2013. Prior to that, he was Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank in Washington, D.C.

Earlier in his career, he spent many years at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris. A prolific scholar, he has authored numerous academic papers and books on poverty and inequality in both developing and developed countries.

He remains actively engaged in the international development community, regularly lecturing and advising major international organizations and governments. His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious academic distinctions throughout his career.
