Dr. Pachauri is Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, established by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations, being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
Previously, Dr. Rajendra Pachauri led the Tata Energy Research Institute, doing original work and providing professional support in the areas of energy, environment, forestry, biotechnology, and the conservation of natural resources worldwide. In 1994, the United Nations appointed him as a part-time advisor in the fields of energy and sustainable management of natural resources.
In 2001 he was appointed to India's Economic Advisory Council and became a board member for the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies. Dr. Pachauri has been a visiting Professor of Resource Economics at West Virginia University, a senior visiting fellow at the Resource Systems Institute, and a visiting research fellow at the World Bank.
To acknowledge his immense contribution to the field of environment, Dr. Pachauri was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award (2001), one of India's highest civilian honors that recognizes distinguished service of a high order to the nation in any field. He is active in several international forums on the subject of climate change.
